The Rest of the Story

Many years ago, there was a radio show hosted by Paul Harvey that always captured my attention.  Harvey, in his magnificent story-telling would pull you deeply into his story.  It was only at the end he would reveal the well-known person this story was about. You got to hear the little-known or forgotten facts of what got this person to where they were in life.  At the end, is that distinctive voice, you would hear that familiar phrase, “And now you know the rest of the story”.
In my Bible reading last night, I read through Matthew 14.  I read how Jesus walked on the water out to the boat where the disciples were being tossed about.  I read how they were afraid and Jesus spoke “It is I, be not afraid”.  I read how Peter asked if he could get out of the boat and walk on the water…..and he did. (Yes, he may have started to sink, be he still walked on water.)  Then I started backing up.  I read the verses that came before this passage.  I read the verses that led up to the miraculous walking on the water for both Jesus and Peter as well as the winds immediately stopping.  Verse 23 says, “And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain apart to pray:”
And now you know the rest of the story.
Have a blessed week.
