Thanksgiving a Different Way

Here in the US, it is Thanksgiving!  A time we get a few days off from work, get together with family and eat more food than should legally be allowed.  Today it occurred to me that this is the day that we overemphasize what really should be in our hearts all year long.  God clearly spelled out His perfect will for us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18  when He inspired the Apostle Paul to write: “In everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Did you catch that? In everything. In the good times, as well as the bad. In the happy times of life, as well as in the painful ones. During difficult times, trying times and frustrating times, too.
Maybe this year, we should all endeavor to approach “thanksgiving” in a different way.  Perhaps we should learn to thank Him not only for all the blessings, but for the things that don’t exactly go our way.  Maybe we can thank Him for the valleys as well as the mountaintops.  Thank Him for the times He has said “no” instead of “yes”. Thank him for the time spent waiting on answers to prayers, as well as for the victories won through prayer.
Join me in giving thanks in and for everything, and let’s have a heart of thankfulness all year long.
