The Ultimate Experience of Life

The Ultimate Experience of Prayer

The only thing that will remain in heaven of our earthy time is our prayers” (Vesta Mangun). Yet, why do so many struggle with prayer? Prayer is the ultimate experience of life; it reaches into eternity. It is our opportunity to become a part of the eternal purpose of God. Prayer is often constricted to a narrow focus or it may sprawl in our mind without parameters. The “sweet hour of prayer” becomes a dreaded responsibility instead of a privileged relationship. Prayer has been perceived as drudgery, when it is a pleasure. As hard self-discipline, when it is a self-rewarding sacrifice. As a commitment you can never quite keep, when it is an unlimited communion with God. A lot depends on how our prayer life is conducted.  “First of all…Prayer.”

The Power of Prayer

The Power of Prayer

I want to make a very simple, but profound statement….there is power in prayer!  Now I know that we say this often. But sometimes I wonder if we truly believe it.  If you’ve ever struggled to believe in the power in prayer, let me share a few things from this past weekend.
I watched an elder go through a prayer line in the service I was attending. You could see in her movement and actions that she was in pain. I later found out that she had been in severe pain for over a month due to arthritis causing a pinched nerve in her back. God instantly touched her. At her doctor’s appointment on Monday, she shared with her physician that her pain level was ZERO.  There is power in prayer!
Another person had been unable to find comfort or relief from excruciating pain for many days instantly received healing as prayer went forth.  They danced and shouted as God brought complete healing. There is power in prayer!
Another person had gone through a severe time of depression for over three years.  He said he felt as if a black cloud hung over his head. As people gathered around him and prayed, God instantly delivered him from this dark depression.  He said, “I feel like a new man”.  There is power in prayer!
Three different people, with three different needs, each touched by the power of prayer.  Each left different than they came. We serve a powerful God who not only “hears” but “answers” our prayers.  There IS power in prayer!
Have a blessed week.

You Are the Salt of the Earth Through Prayer

You Are the Salt of the Earth Through Prayer

You are the salt of the earth through prayer. Salinity (salt) is a physical characteristic that impacts where marine organisms live and thrive. Salinity is the amount of salt that is dissolved in ocean water. The salinity of the oceans varies based on rainfall, evaporation, river runoff, and ice formation. When salinity lowers or increases it affects marine life. Most marine life creatures keep salinity inside their bodies equal to the salinity of the water surrounding them.
This is how prayer works. One person who carries the heart of God for souls, for intercession, for the increase of the name and glory of Jesus Christ in their community is impacting the spiritual marine life of their church. This produces spiritual salt by prayer. We are the salt of the earth. And if we lose our savor we are good for nothing. Salt is a preservative for kingdom values and kingdom purpose.
Ask God to increase His power in you through prayer and He will impact the spiritual marine salt life in others around you by the spirit of prayer.
Checklist on How to Pray:
  • God enlarge my heart by Your grace through prayer to manifest Your passion for people. Help me decrease so You may increase so I can influence others relationally with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Increase the fire of Your word through me by prayer to influence and impact the destinies of the people I serve and come in contact with.
  • Increase Your transforming love in me through prayer to break generational patterns in family church relationships and a dying lost world.
  • Increase my capacity to carry Calvary’s love to the hurting and the wounded so I won’t be offended with the cross you called me to bear for others.

Prayers on Credit

Prayers on Credit

It all happened during the night of January several years ago.  My knee replacement surgery had been successfully done that morning.  Teri, my daughter, was napping on the couch beside my hospital bed, thankful that I had finally settled down into a deep sleep.  A nurse came in to check my vitals and pandemonium broke out.  My blood pressure was 50/30. A blood clot had hit my lungs and suddenly I was in diastolic heart failure and kidney failure!  Three hours passed before I responded to anything.
Except for Teri, none of those who so faithfully prayed for me knew that my condition had changed from normal recovery of knee surgery to serious and life-threatening.  Within 24 hours, many were praying for me, but not at the time I so desperately needed it.  From this, I’ve learned a blessed lesson.
“…before they call, I will answer…” is declared in Isaiah 65:24.  Prayers on credit!  Credit is when you receive something for which you will pay later.  God is good – and so trusting!  If we have a good credit history of praying when prayer is called for, He will respond on credit!
You did not know in the middle of the night on January 26 that I desperately needed your prayers, but before you called, He answered!
Grace and Peace,
