Waiting for Nothing

On the recent Europe/Middle East prayer trip to Sophia, Bulgaria I was intrigued by the dedication and sincerity of people in a cathedral of this great city.  We sat for around an hour praying in this historical church.

There was a certain shrine that many people gravitated to.  I watched as they patiently waited for their turn to approach the shrine and seek for answers to their needs and comfort in their lives.  I’ve been in many cathedrals over the years, but I was struck all over again with the realization that they are waiting for nothing.

No shrine, no saint, no ritual is going to satisfy their spiritual hunger.  At least they were reaching out to God in the only way they knew how to, but little did they know that they were just waiting in line for nothing.

As I reflected on the scene before me, I was overwhelmed by the truth that in my times of waiting I am rewarded.

“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” (Isaiah 40:31)
“Wait on the Lord . . . and he shall strengthen thy heart..” (Psalm 27:14)
“Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield.” (Psalm 33:20)
“For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness . . . ”  (Galatians 5:5)
“I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me and heard my cry.” (Psalm 40:1)

These are just a few of the many scriptures that speak about waiting.  You can see in each scripture that there is a reward for waiting.

Of course, the greatest event we are waiting for is the coming of the Lord.  As we steadfastly continue in prayer and righteous living, we know that some great day when the trumpet of the Lord sounds we will receive our heavenly reward that we have all waited so long for.

I am so thankful that my waiting is not in vain.  My God hears the prayers of His people and although He doesn’t always answer in our time frame, we know that our waiting will bring a great reward.

Wait patiently for God to work in your situation.
Wait patiently for the answers to decades of praying.
Wait patiently for your family to be saved.
Wait patiently for the revival you long to see in your church.

Be of good courage! Your prayers are not in vain!  You are not waiting for nothing!  God DOES hear and He WILL answer!
