Prayer Works

A mother’s prayer can change the outcome of any situation. Hannah prayed and a prophet was born. “For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of Him” (I Samuel 1:27).

Never be discouraged if you feel you have prayed and prayed and it seems nothing is happening. God is faithful. His Word is sure. If we continue to call on His name on behalf of our children, we will reap the reward in due season. Begin to thank the Lord for the things that you want to happen in and with your children. Stand on the Word of God. Prayer is powerful. As you pray, believe that God is granting your petition.

It was a routine day. The sun was shining brightly. Our fifteen-year-old daughter, Amanda, finished her preparations for the school day ahead. I readied myself to pray with her and give her hugs before she caught the school van. That day, like any other, I asked the Lord for her protection, to keep her mind sharp, and to keep her from any evil that might come near. She entered the elevator from the hallway of our third-floor apartment. In moments, we watched from the window as she entered the bus and was on her way.

I ventured out to the balcony on this beautiful, ordinary day. My husband was there watering plants and vegetables on our little balcony garden. We took a few moments to talk, enjoying the sunshine. Suddenly we heard a massive explosion. I said, “Oh no! That sound came from the direction where Amanda would be traveling to the school.” We began to call on God for whatever had happened.

The phone rang and it was Amanda telling us that she was safe, but a suicide bomber had exploded himself very close to the school and exactly on the same route she had just traveled. We began to thank the Lord for His protection for our daughter. There are no words to express my thankfulness that we had prayed together every morning since she started school. We do not know the many times God had protected her at school, but on that day we had concrete proof. He hears the prayers of the righteous.

“For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways” (Psalm 91:11).
